May Match Report

Well, it seems that spring is officially over. Temperatures climbed well into the 90's by the time we finished. The sky was clear and we had pretty consistent light all day. Some of us with older eyes appreciate that the most. We had a few rifles that weren't too cooperative today and some shooters traded off matches. Click here for all of the scores.

Welcome to Shane and Joshua who came out to shoot with us today. We hope you had some fun and will be back again.

Thanks to everyone for helping out with the match chores. We'll see you all next month for another vintage military double header.

April Match Report

This was an interesting day for a match. It was sunny, then it wasn't, then it was again... You get the idea. It was a challenge to keep up with that old saying "Lights Up - Sights Up." Nevertheless, our first CMP Match for 2019 was a lot of fun. There were a few mechanical issues, but these aren't shiny new rifles so it is to be expected. Click here for the scores and CMP awards.

Welcome to David and Chris who joined us for the matches today. We hope you'll come out again. Thanks to my fellow club members for helping run the match, you guys are the best!

March Match Report

Another great day for a match. A little chilly to start with but soon it was perfect shooting weather. A few good scores were posted, but it seems we all had a few struggles today. Click here to see the scores from the matches.

Welcome to Paul who shot with us today with his Mauser and recently acquired M1 Garand. Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot and help with the match chores.

Reminder: Our April match will be one week earlier than usual to allow us to participate in the CMP Eastern games at Camp Butner.

GMail server problem

The monthly match report for February bounced back from the gmail servers for several subscribers to the updates. We have no control over what they decide is legitimate email and what is spam. A subsequent message sent out to the same group went through OK. So, if you don't get a report in your email, you can always check here for the match report.

February Match Report

Not a bad day at all for a February match. Even though we didn't have rain, we shot from the covered firing positions to avoid the mist that was falling. The overcast skies made it tough for old eyes and open sights but there were mostly aperture sights on the firing line today.

Welcome to Richard who drove over from the Lejeune area to put the pressure on us at the match today. We don't normally shoot match grade rifles in our VMBAR/VMSAR matches but we couldn't be rude to a guest. Welcome also to Ben who lives nearby and brought an M1 out of early retirement to shoot. We hope you two will make the trip again.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot and help with the match chores.

January Match Report

It was a frosty start for the match today. But, once we got going the sun came out and warmed things up. We're already looking ahead to the Eastern Games in Late April. Jay and I put up the best scores today. Click here to see the scores.

Welcome to Nick who shot with us for the first time today. He had a serious handicap though as his 100 year old Enfield was acting up quite a bit. We hope you had fun anyway and will come back next time.

Thanks everyone for coming out to shoot and for helping out with the match chores.

December Match Report

The unofficial Swiss rifle match closes out our 2018 match schedule for vintage military rifle. It was a great day for shooting. There were a few hiccups with some of us, but all in all it beat elbowing our way through crowds at some shopping center. Congratulations to Jim for putting up the best scores for both matches. Click here for all of the scores. The Swiss citizens qualify annually to maintain their readiness. Non-Swiss citizens can also shoot in the official matches for Swiss Shooting medals. Click here for details (be prepared to translate...)

Thanks to everyone who participated in our matches in 2018. I especially want to thank my fellow members who are always on hand to pitch in and make these matches run so well. Jim Popp and Jay Ferguson are there at every match helping out. Some other members while not available at every match are always ready to help. Thanks Dick King, Tom Powell, Tim Fitzpatrick and others.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, a safe and Happy New Year, and will be ready to shoot again next year.
