VM Double Header

We had a good day for a match. A little breeze now and then kept the heat in check. Jim and Jay posted the best scores. Today everyone shot better in the second match. That is probably a first. Click here for all of the scores.

If the heat is keeping you home, remember that for the next two matches we'll be shooting on Range#1. With a shaded firing line and shorter walks, the summer matches are a lot more fun. Plus we get to shoot some different matches. Click here for the July match info.

Our first CMP match of the year was a little windy, but not excuse worthy. We were happy to present seven CMP award pins. Click here for the rifle scores and awards and here for the carbine scores and awards. We will not have a match at Crosse Creek next month as many of us will be shooting at Camp Butner in the CMP Eastern Games.

Winter War Match

- Posted in Match Reports by

Starting out with numb fingers made this Winter War match a bit more authentic. But the wind died down a little as the sun came out and we had a nice day of shooting at the range. The targets we use on this match have scoring rings about half the size of our usual SR targets so 10s and Xs are a little harder to come by. Nevertheless we still have winners. Today Jay and I held the top spots. Click here for all of the scores. Next month we will be shooting our first CMP match of the year. Click here for match details.

There we were, hunkered down in the trench trying to stay warm when over the far end of the field we saw them coming over a low rise about 200 yards out.WWI Double Header At first we saw just the tops of their helmets so we held fire. Then when they were visible from the waist up, we let them have it. Seriously though, trench warfare was scary to imagine, let alone experience. The guys brought a good batch of WWI era rifles today to shoot the match and we had fun shooting the silhouettes. The low scores are due in part to the tiny 10 ring on those B27s. Congratulations to Jay and David for putting up the best fight today. Click here for the scores.

We won't have a match in December but will shoot a regular vintage military match in January.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot this year.

I want to especially thank my fellow club members who pitch in every month to make these matches happen. JIm and Jay are always on hand to make things work smoothly, thanks guys!!!

The weather was great as predicted. We had more than half of the shooters earn CMP award pins this match. No gold this time, but there's always next year... Click here for the scores and awards.

Our November match will be our WWI bolt-action match. WWI era rifles such as M1903, SMLE, M1917, P14, M1891, etc. are preferred but not required. Any bolt action vintage military rifle will do, and even semi autos that meet our vintage rifle requirements are OK if that's what you have.

Ahhh. It is nice to be out on a cool fall morning and shoot guns. I don't know what the rest of you were doing but a few of us had a great day at the range. Jim had the most fun, winning both matches. I had to sit out the second match due to my loads being warmer than expected. But we all had fun. We missed Jay and Tim who are both on the DL. Click here for the scores. Next month will be a CMP double header so more modern guns will be allowed in the match. Click here for more details.

Vintage Military 2-Gun Report

It was a good day to be shooting in the shade and only making 100 yd round trips to score. We had the fans running though and had no casualties. My daughter recently suggested that whoever has the most fun...Wins! Well fun is what we've always been about with our matches. So, Jim really had fun when he saw he beat me on the first match by an X. Then Tim edged out Jim by X's in the second match. Ed's M1 carbine had a malfunction yesterday and so he shot an M44 today, that is definitely some loud fun. And, both Tim and Ed barely missed shooting a 100, and that is fun too. So who really won??? Our annual vintage military 3-gun match was a lot of fun today. It was a little warm but not bad. Shooting in the shade and short walks to the targets helped a lot. I did well today in spite of a couple of feed issues on my trusty M1 Carbine. Click here for the scores. If you missed out, plan to come out next month for our vintage military 2-gun match. We'll be shooting in the shade again with even shorter walks. Click here for details.

Welcome to David and welcome back to Tom. You guys had some issues today, but hopefully, it was still fun and we'll see you next month.

Thanks everyone for pitching in with the match chores. You really make it easy to run these matches.

A great day for shooting even if a little humid. We had a couple of sprinkles but not enough to even soak the targets. Jay and Tom put up the best scores today. Congratulations guys. Click here for all of the scores.
